Formation skydiving

Formation Skydiving

Formation Flying

Formation Skydiving is one of the most popular freefall disciplines and involves teams of flyers building formations whilst in freefall. The flyers in the team perform these formations whilst in a flat or belly-to-earth position and during competitions are filmed by a team camera-flyer. The more formations the team builds in a set period of time, the better. Typically, teams consist of either 4 or 8 flyers.

Wind Tunnels play a massive part in the training plans of any competitive Formation Skydiving team, and are widely regarded as an integral part of the success of any successful outfit. Both Airkix Manchester and Milton Keynes entertain teams of all levels, from the ‘Rookie’ category right through to the top-flight ‘Open’ category. Of particular note is the British and World Champion 4-way female outfit, Team Airkix, who took gold in the World Championships and trained exclusively at Airkix.

Getting Into FS

Typically, upon completion of the AFF course, skydivers are encouraged to consolidate their flat flying skills and to be competent and comfortable in flying with multiple flyers.

Equally, non-skydivers that visit Airkix for the first time are taught the basics of stable ‘belly-to-earth’ flight and are also encouraged to become competent enough to fly with others.

This is the standard progression, so skydivers and tunnel flyers are introduced to the exciting world of FS in the early stages of their freefall careers.

Manchester FS

At 14 feet in diameter, Airkix Manchester is perfect for FS teams of all levels. The smooth airflow, size of the tunnel and availability of the world’s finest tunnel coaches makes it the ideal choice for any training camp. And did we mention our state of the art debriefing facilities and comfortable pro-flyer area?

It’s also a great choice for novice and intermediate flyers, skydivers and non-skydivers, looking to progress their individual freefall skills. Our friendly staff are always on hand to assist flyers through the Airkix ‘Ten Basic Levels of Flight’ and to ensure you achieve your freefall goals.

Milton Keynes FS

At over 12 feet in diameter, Airkix Milton Keynes can accommodate Formation Skydiving teams of up to four flyers and was the base for Team Airkix during their World Championship winning campaign.

Milton Keynes has since become renowned as a centre for less experienced and intermediate skydivers that are looking to progress their FS skills – perhaps with a view to joining a team and competing in the future. It’s also ideal for non-skydivers to consolidate and progress their FS skills in order to complete the Airkix ‘Ten Basic Levels of Flight’.

Just like Manchester, Airkix Milton Keynes has some of the finest coaches in the world available to assist you, as well as a fantastic team of friendly instructors who are happy to assist you in achieving your goals.

FS Events

As well as offering ‘coaching to order’ for any of our flyers, we also host regular FS events at all of our facilities and welcome flyers of all levels.

FS Scrambles

FS Scrambles is one of our most fun-filled and popular regular events and is open to any flyers (skydivers and non-skydivers) capable of sharing the air-flow with others.

Flyers are organised according to their skill/experience level and are then allocated into FS teams. The deliberate intention is that each team subsequently consists of flyers of mixed skill level – resulting in a fun competition heaped with laughs and learning!

It’s a great way to fly economically, to meet other flyers and to progress your skills. To find out about forthcoming Scrambles Events, click here.

“Build one closer to my town so I can go all the time! Plllllease! lol.”

“Ben was lovely and totally brilliant with my Mum. I bought it as a 65th birthday present for her, as she said she wanted to skydive years ago, but she was really nervous before we went in. Ben was great and she ended up having a brilliant time. Thanks Ben! Emma, Cleethorpes.”
